Ramban, Mar 29: In a devastating incident, at least ten people lost their lives when a cab plunged into a 300-meter deep gorge near the Battery Chashma area of Ramban district along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway on Friday morning, officials reported.
According to sources, a Tavera vehicle carrying passengers from Jammu to Kashmir rolled down into the deep gorge near Battery Chashma, prompting urgent rescue operations by the Ramban Police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local volunteers. The rescue efforts were hampered by the challenging terrain and continuous rain in the area.
Authorities have confirmed the recovery of eight to ten bodies so far, with the identities of two deceased individuals revealed through identification documents as Balwan Singh, son of Purab Singh from Jammu, and Vipin Mukhiya, son of Vishwa Nath Mukhiya, a resident of Bihar.
“Majority of those dead are non-J&K residents, and further rescue operations are ongoing,” an official added.
The Station House Officer (SHO) of Ramban stated that around eight to ten people have lost their lives in the tragic accident, and search efforts continue.
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh expressed condolences to the bereaved families and stated, “Spoke to DC Ramban, Baseer-ul-Haq after learning about the tragic road accident in which a passenger taxi rolled down a deep gorge on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway near Battery Chashma leading to the loss of 10 lives. Police, SDRF, and civil QRT have reached the spot. The rescue operation is going on. I’m in constant touch. My sincere condolences to the bereaved families.”
The incident has left the region in shock, and authorities are working tirelessly to expedite the rescue efforts and provide assistance to the affected families.
