Srinagar, Apr 30: The Jammu and Kashmir Power Transmission Corporation Limited (JKPTCL) has warned of a potential power crisis in the region after significant damage to transmission towers along the Peer Top area due to unprecedented rainfall. In a statement on social media, the corporation revealed that they are currently relying on only one connection to the Northern Grid.
According to the Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the JKPTCL cautioned that if the last remaining connectivity to the Northern Grid is disrupted, the situation could escalate, affecting not just a particular district but the entire Kashmir Valley.
“Please be informed that due to unprecedented rainfall, there has been significant damage to transmission towers along Peer Top. We are currently relying on only one connection to the Northern Grid,” the JKPTCL posted on X (formerly Twitter).
The corporation urged all essential services to have backup plans in place to address any potential issues arising from this situation, emphasizing the importance of public well-being.
While the JKPTCL stated that there is no need for panic at the moment, they acknowledged the possibility of the last remaining connectivity being disrupted, which could lead to a widespread power outage across the valley.
“However, if our last remaining connectivity is disrupted, which is unlikely but not impossible, the situation could escalate, affecting not just a particular district but the entire valley,” the statement read.
Residents and businesses in the region are advised to prepare for potential power disruptions and take necessary precautions, such as having backup generators or alternative energy sources ready.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and working to restore the damaged transmission towers to ensure a stable power supply to the Kashmir Valley.
