Jammu/Srinagar, Sept 12: In an unprecedented move, the Jammu and Kashmir Pollution Control Committee (JKPCC) has ordered the closure of 69 hospitals, nursing homes, clinics and diagnostic labs in Jammu and Srinagar for brazen violations of Environmental Laws and the Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules, 2016, as per a Daily Excelsior report.
The order directs immediate snapping of power and water supply, and de-registration of these units by the Directors of Health Services. Officials described the findings as “alarming” — with medical waste being dumped without segregation or treatment, turning into a “silent killer” contaminating water, soil and air.
In Srinagar, the healthcare units ordered shut include:
