Shopian, Jan 20 (KNT): Advocate Shabir Ahmad Kullay, MLA from Shopian, on Tuesday said he supports Jammu and Kashmir going separate ways, asserting that both regions should be allowed to pursue their own political and developmental paths.
Speaking to reporters in Herpora area of Shopian, Kullay said Jammu and Kashmir have distinct aspirations, priorities and outlooks, which, according to him, are difficult to accommodate under a single administrative framework.
“Jammu should go its own way and Kashmir should do the same. Each region should be allowed to live its own life and shape its future according to its own aspirations, without political or administrative interference from the other,” he said.
The MLA said that prolonged political disagreements and contrasting regional perspectives have exposed the limitations of a unified governance model. He argued that the existing system has failed to adequately address the expectations of both regions.
Kullay maintained that a separate administrative and political arrangement would help reduce friction and enable more focused governance. “Both regions have unique needs and challenges. Separation would allow policymakers to concentrate on region-specific issues and ensure better governance,” he added.
His remarks come amid ongoing political discourse on governance, regional representation and administrative structures in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
