Srinagar, Jan 20: The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) has welcomed the inauguration of the redeveloped Amira Kadal Foot Bridge, describing it as a significant addition to Srinagar’s urban infrastructure and a positive step towards enhancing the city’s appeal for tourists.
The redeveloped foot bridge was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha.
In a statement, KCCI said the modern redesign of one of Srinagar’s most iconic crossings has not only improved pedestrian connectivity but has also added to the aesthetic and cultural vibrancy of the city’s historic core. The Chamber noted that well-planned urban infrastructure plays a vital role in shaping visitor experience, particularly in heritage-rich cities such as Srinagar.
The Chamber observed that projects which successfully blend heritage elements with contemporary urban planning have the potential to attract both domestic and international tourists, encourage longer stays, and increase footfall in traditional markets and commercial areas. According to KCCI, the redevelopment of Amira Kadal is expected to benefit local businesses, traders, and service providers by enhancing pedestrian movement and revitalising surrounding commercial hubs.
KCCI also felicitated Srinagar Smart City Limited, the Commissioner of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Mr. Fazlul Haseeb, and the divisional and district administration for their coordinated efforts in completing the project and contributing to urban renewal in the city.
Reiterating its commitment to promoting tourism-led economic growth, the Chamber expressed hope that similar people-centric infrastructure initiatives will be undertaken across Srinagar and other urban centres of Kashmir. It further urged sustained focus on developing public spaces that are citizen-friendly, culturally reflective, and supportive of tourism, trade, and livelihoods.
