Srinagar, Feb 25: In a heartwarming display of compassion, IAS officer Athar Aamir Khan, the District Magistrate of Kulgam, came forward to help an elderly Kashmiri Pandit man living under harsh conditions in the Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir. Khan’s prompt action has garnered praise from netizens across the country.

The case of Pyare Lal, the elderly Kashmiri Pandit, came to light through a local news channel, which Khan happened to come across. Moved by the deplorable living conditions of the man, Khan took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his concern and the steps he had taken to alleviate Lal’s plight.

This is so amazing @AtharAamirKhan,
you took no time to reach him.
Almost in tears seeing the warmth and affection with which you’re trying to look after him. Thank you for remembering the strength of our fabric.

In his post, Khan revealed, “I visited him today. We have made proper arrangements for him at our Senior Citizen Home, but he didn’t want to move out despite our insistence. He doesn’t want to shift to any other place. So we are making arrangements at his home as well.”

Khan’s post detailed the various measures taken to improve Lal’s living situation. “The house needs repairs that will be done. His health check-up was also done. A doctor will also visit him regularly. Cleanliness and sanitation are being done. Ration, bedding, blankets etc. have been arranged. Our District Social Welfare Officer will be looking after his day-to-day care,” he wrote.

The District Magistrate’s compassionate gesture has drawn widespread praise from netizens, who have hailed his efforts to ensure the well-being of the elderly Kashmiri Pandit. Khan’s actions serve as a reminder of the importance of empathy and taking proactive steps to help those in need, particularly the most vulnerable members of society.
