Srinagar, March 28: Godrej Agrovet Limited, a leading Indian agribusiness company, has introduced Hanabi, an advanced pesticide for controlling mites in apple orchards. Developed in collaboration with Japan’s Nissan Chemical Corporation, Hanabi features patented chemistry that provides longer control duration and faster knockdown activity, translating into better yields for farmers.

Apple cultivation is a crucial commercial fruit crop in India, with Kashmir dominating the industry. The region accounts for 49% of the total area under apple cultivation and contributes a remarkable 78% to the country’s annual apple output. However, this thriving industry faces challenges from pests like the European Red Mite, which can cause substantial damage to production and quality.

Rajavelu NK, CEO of Godrej Agrovet Limited’s Crop Protection Business, commented on Hanabi’s benefits and efficacy, “In Kashmir, where the annual export of 1.8 million metric tons of apples sustains livelihoods and contributes to 75% of India’s apple production, we understand the deep impact of our agricultural practices. While abiotic climatic challenges remain beyond our control, the introduction of Hanabi demonstrates our commitment to addressing biotic factors that threaten this thriving industry.”

“Protecting the apple crop by eradicating mites during their entire lifecycle, Hanabi’s quick-action formula starts immediately after spraying. Providing 80% knockdown within 3-4 hours, Hanabi is a reliable and efficient pest control solution. Additionally, its insecticidal activity has proven secondary efficacy against thrips and whiteflies. We are confident that this innovative solution will revolutionize apple farming in the valley,” he added.

For best results, Hanabi should be used in the early stage of mite infestation. The first spray of 0.5 grams per liter of water should be applied when the mite population reaches 3-5 mites per leaf.

The introduction of Hanabi in Kashmir highlights Godrej Agrovet’s dedication to introducing innovative solutions for Indian farmers through international collaborations. This initiative aims to enhance the prosperity and livelihoods of local farmers, making them more resilient to adversities.
