Jammu, Dec 10: The fare for the 200 e-buses operating across Jammu and Kashmir is set to increase in April next year, with the hike to be calibrated according to inflation and other operational factors, officials said on Wednesday.
Last year, the fare was raised by 7 percent.
Devansh Yadav, CEO of Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL) and Commissioner of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), said the upcoming fare revision will be guided primarily by inflation trends, but several additional considerations will also play a role.
“All 200 e-buses in J&K will have their fares revised accordingly,” he confirmed.
Yadav said the revision aims to ensure the long-term sustainability of the service, which must account for maintenance expenses, staff salaries and overall operational viability. “Inflation will be a key component, but other elements will also influence the final decision,” he added.
The government has already announced free travel for women on these e-buses across the Union Territory, a move widely welcomed by commuters. Officials said the fare adjustment seeks to strike a balance between rising operational costs and the mandate to continue expanding services to uncovered areas in Jammu and Srinagar.
The e-bus fleet has significantly improved connectivity in underserved regions, while the free-ride provision for women has boosted daily mobility and access to essential services.
