Jammu, Feb 14: In a major blow to cross-border narco-trafficking, Jammu Police and 165 Battalion BSF recovered 6.582 kilograms of suspected heroin, valued at approximately ₹40 crore in the international market, during a joint operation in the RS Pura sector near the International Border.
Acting on specific inputs from 165 Bn BSF regarding suspicious drone activity along the border, a joint cordon-and-search operation was launched during the intervening night of February 13 and 14 in Nai Basti Karotana village of the Baspur area.
During searches conducted at first light, two yellow-coloured packets containing heroin-like substance were recovered from wheat fields in Nai Basti Karotana, an area close to the International Border. Officials suspect the consignment was drone-dropped from across the border into Indian territory.
The recovered packets were seized in the presence of a magistrate, and a recovery memo was prepared on the spot. Preliminary assessment indicates the contraband weighs approximately 6.582 kg.
In this connection, FIR No. 36/2026 has been registered under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act at Police Station RS Pura. The investigation is being carried out by SHO RS Pura, Inspector Ravi Singh Parihar, assisted by Incharge BPP Baspur, SI Ranbir Singh, under the supervision of SP Headquarters Jammu.
Police said efforts are underway to establish the source and intended destination of the narcotics. Both backward and forward linkages are being thoroughly examined, and further breakthroughs are expected in the case.
Jammu Police has appealed to residents, particularly those living near the International Border, to share any information related to illegal drug activities, reiterating its commitment to making the region drug-free and crime-free.
