Srinagar, Feb 18: The majestic mountains of Jammu and Kashmir welcomed a fresh snowfall on Sunday as the higher reaches witnessed moderate snowfall. Light rains also lashed the plains, covering the valley in a magical white blanket.
The Meteorological (MeT) Department has forecast heavy snowfall and rainfall in the union territory over the next few days starting Sunday through Wednesday.
Popular tourist destinations like Gulmarg and Pahalgam saw snowfall early Sunday morning. Srinagar city saw light rains with minimum temperatures dropping to 5.8 degrees Celsius.
Other key cities and towns including Jammu, Katra, Batote, Bhaderwah and Banihal also experienced rainfall and a dip in mercury levels.
The snowfall ahead is expected to boost the winter tourism prospects of Kashmir, attracting skiers and snow lovers from across India and the world. The picturesque valley glitters with renewed beauty after every snowfall, drawing more tourists during the peak winter season.
