Srinagar, Dec 19 (KNC): A viral video showing a patient being pushed on a trolley along an open road outside Government Medical College (GMC), Handwara has sparked widespread outrage, prompting health authorities in Jammu and Kashmir to order a time-bound inquiry into the incident.

An Official told news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, that soon after the video surfaced on social media, the administration moved swiftly and constituted a high-level inquiry committee to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident and to fix responsibility for any lapses.

The inquiry committee has been directed to submit its report by 11:00 am on December 20, 2025, underlining the seriousness with which the matter is being pursued.

As per an official order, the committee comprises senior faculty members of the medical college, Prof. (Dr) Abdul Qayoom Lone, Head, Department of Anaesthesia. Prof. (Dr) Javaid Ahmad Bhat, Head, Department of Orthopedics. Prof. (Dr) Rafiq Ahmad Tagoo, Head, Department of Dentistry

The committee will conduct a thorough examination of issues related to the availability and functionality of diagnostic and patient transport services, compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) for patient movement, and coordination among various hospital departments.

The findings of the inquiry are expected to help identify lapses, if any, and recommend corrective and disciplinary measures to prevent recurrence of such incidents. Authorities have maintained that strict action will be taken based on the outcome of the probe if negligence or dereliction of duty is established. (KNC)
