Srinagar, Oct 23 (KINS): Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather, on Thursday rebuked National Conference (NC) MLA Bashir Ahmad Veeri for making objectionable remarks against late political leaders.

While paying tributes to deceased leaders, Veeri remarked that late BJP leader Ramesh Arora belonged to a “communal party.” “Although he was secular but belonged to BJP and had affiliations with RSS. He was part of a communal party,”  he claimed, according to news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS). The comment drew strong objections from BJP members, prompting the Speaker to intervene.

Rather asked Veeri to refrain from making objectionable comments about deceased leaders. “Such references to departed leaders have never been made in the Assembly,” BJP leader Sham Lal Sharma said. Following this, the Speaker directed Veeri not to make such remarks.

Veeri then stated that former Governor of J&K, Satpal Sharma, had been a controversial figure. “One of his controversies was when he said the fax machine did not work,” Veeri added.

BJP members again objected, after which the Speaker rebuked Veeri and endorsed the objections raised by the BJP members, urging all legislators to maintain decorum while paying tributes.
