When 20-year-old Fardeem Hussain met an accident last year, his dreams came crashing down as he was preparing for an international competition in powerlifting.
For months he was bedridden and had to undergo a series of treatments for his leg which was severely injured in the accident.
Come 2024, Fardeem is back with a bang as he is now preparing for Mr Jammu and Kashmir Powerlifting Championship 2024, which is scheduled to be held in March this year.
“It was a very tough phase for me as everyone had given up their hope for my survival. I have to undergo a series of treatments and physiotherapies to recover in a very short time. Now, I have been again training for the last five months and I am now ready for the competitions,” he said.
The journey towards the championship has not been easy for Fardeem who overcame physical and emotional challenges to regain his strength in very less time. “I underwent rigorous training sessions, both mentally and physically, to regain focus and strength. The support from my family has played a crucial role in my healing process and preparation for the championship,” he said.
While Fardeem said he has been declared fit for the upcoming Mr Jammu and Kashmir State Powerlifting Championship 2024, he said he will simultaneously prepare for the international competitions ahead. “I am now aiming to win big titles at international level. I am simultaneously preparing youth for state-level competitions also,” he said.
Pertinently Fardeem, who is the youngest professional powerlifter from the union territory, has already bagged Mr Jammu and Kashmir Powerlifting Championship 2021 and other district-level powerlifting competition in Jammu and Kashmir. “So far I participated in many competitions held at the Union Territory level and even participated in National competitions,” he said.
In addition to powerlifting, Fardeem is one of the youngest trainers at one of the biggest gym chains in the world.“I am the youngest certified trainer, and I am currently giving young people internet training sessions. I was the youngest trainer at Gold Gym, one of the top gym chains in the world, in 2021,” he claimed.
