Srinagar, Dec 14: a stark display of winter’s intensity, the Kashmir region is experiencing extremely low temperatures, with several areas recording sub-zero conditions. Sonamarg emerges as the coldest location, registering a bone-chilling -9.6°C, closely followed by Pahalgam at -8.4°C and Pulwama at -7.9°C.
Kashmir Region Highlights:
- Srinagar: -4.6°C
- Gulmarg: -7.6°C
- Anantnag: -7.7°C
- Shopian: -8.3°C
The Jammu region presents a contrasting picture, with temperatures ranging from a low of -0.6°C in Bhaderwah to a relatively milder 14.0°C in Ramban. Katra recorded a comparatively comfortable 7.5°C.
Ladakh Region:
The high-altitude region continues to experience extreme cold, with:
- Leh: -13.0°C
- Kargil: -14.3°C
Meteorological departments advise residents to take necessary precautions, including wearing warm clothing, staying indoors when possible, and protecting vulnerable populations from the harsh winter conditions.
The widespread cold wave underscores the challenging winter season in the mountainous regions of Jammu and Kashmir, with temperatures expected to remain low in the coming days.
