Srinagar, Nov 20, KNT: Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference President and MLA Handwara, Sajad Lone, has expressed deep concern over mounting reports of harassment and profiling of Kashmiris across different parts of the country, calling on the Prime Minister to ensure their safety and dignity.

Lone said that mistreatment of Kashmiris has become disturbingly common, noting that stereotyping has turned into a recurring pattern that has worsened “more chronic in the last decade.” He stressed that lakhs of Kashmiris living in various states for work, business and education face growing anxiety, while their families back home fear for their well-being every time an adverse incident occurs.

“Families live in constant worry. These fears are real and need urgent attention,” Lone said, pointing to the rising sense of insecurity among ordinary Kashmiris residing outside the Valley.

He acknowledged that every society has a few extremist elements, but emphasised that such fringe individuals must not be allowed to define or endanger an entire population. In the case of Kashmiris, he warned that the actions of these elements appear aimed at triggering harassment and sowing deeper alienation.

Appealing directly to the Prime Minister’s Office and the Union Home Ministry, Lone urged the Centre to intervene and ensure that Kashmiris are treated with respect and are not subjected to hostility or discrimination anywhere in India.

He reiterated that Kashmiris, like all citizens, deserve safety, dignity and equal protection under the law. [KNT]
