Srinagar, Jan 11: Public transport services have resumed operations through Lal Chowk’s city center following months of suspension due to Smart City construction projects, bringing relief to local businesses and commuters.

“This decision to restore public transport is a crucial step towards reviving the vibrancy of city center markets,” said Farhan Kitab, President of the Regal Chowk Traders Association (RCTA) and Chairman of the Joint Traders Association (JTA), which represents 14 city center markets.

The restoration of transport services is expected to boost customer footfall in the area, supporting thousands of traders whose businesses were affected by reduced accessibility during the construction period.

Kitab expressed gratitude to the administration and SSP Traffic for their support in resuming the services, noting that the decision “reflects the administration’s commitment to addressing the concerns of the trade sector.”

The JTA, representing the collective interests of local merchants, welcomed the initiative and expressed interest in continued collaboration with authorities to balance the progress of Smart City development projects with the needs of the local trade community.
