Srinagar, Jul 15: The Private Schools Association Jammu and Kashmir (PSAJK) on Wednesday unanimously reaffirmed its confidence in the leadership of its President, Nazrul Islam Baba.
Addressing a press conference in Srinagar which was attended by the Association’s founding members, Executive Council, senior office-bearers and district representatives, PSAJK reaffirmed its commitment to constitutional governance, institutional transparency and democratic functioning.
The Association said the founding members, by an overwhelming majority, reposed their faith in Baba’s leadership, reiterating the constitutional continuity, unity and collective vision of PSAJK for the advancement of private education in Jammu and Kashmir.
Clarifying recent developments, PSAJK said that former president PSAJK G N Var retired from the Association in October 2025 and therefore does not hold any constitutional office or authorised position within the body.
PSAJK further said that any statements or representations made by him on behalf of PSAJK or JKPSA without approval of the duly constituted leadership do not reflect the association’s official stand.
The association further disclosed that certain other former office-bearers have been formally asked to submit complete financial accounts, records, vouchers, assets, liabilities and settlement details pertaining to their respective tenures.
PSAJK warned that legal action would be initiated in the event of non-compliance, adding that six office-bearers had been terminated for allegedly failing to furnish financial accounts to the central leadership.
PSAJK described the exercise as a routine governance measure aimed at ensuring transparency, accountability and an orderly transition of institutional responsibilities, while expressing hope that all former office-bearers would cooperate.
The association also distanced itself from the elections reportedly conducted under the banner of JKPSA, saying they have no bearing on the constitutional affairs of PSAJK
President PSAJK said that the association is a separately registered organisation in the Jammu division with its own recognised leadership headed by Chairman Kamal Gupta and President Ajay Gupta.
PSAJK maintained that any process undertaken in the name of JKPSA without authorisation of its registered leadership cannot confer legitimacy or representative status upon any individual.
Reiterating that the legitimacy of any democratic institution flows from its constitution, due process and the mandate of its members, PSAJK said it remains committed to transparency, accountability, institutional discipline and democratic values.
The association also appealed to all member institutions, particularly those facing issues related to state land, to consolidate their documents at the PSAJK central office in Bemina.
The association assured members that the PSAJK would pursue the matter before the courts and the government and asked affected institutions to approach its office for redressal and consolidation of their cases.
