Srinagar, Dec 21: Mr. Vicky Shaw, Chairman of the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDDCI) Kashmir, has expressed his strong support for the decision to maintain the current Goods and Services Tax (GST) rate on Kashmir shawls. This information of excluding the Shawls from GST council agenda serves as a significant relief to the local handicraft industry, which is crucial to the cultural and economic fabric of the region.
In a statement to The Biz Reporter, Mr. Shaw also acknowledged the instrumental role played by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mr. Omar Abdullah, in advocating against any increases in GST on handicraft shawls. “The unwavering support from our Chief Minister has been vital in convincing the GST Council not to impose a hike on the GST for handicraft shawls,” stated Mr. Shaw. “This decision is a positive step in protecting our artisans and preserving the rich heritage of Kashmir’s handicrafts.”
Mr. Shaw reiterated his gratitude to all stakeholders involved and hopes for continued cooperation to ensure the growth and sustainability of the handicraft sector.
