Srinagar, Nov 6: In a swift and coordinated operation, Ganderbal Police rescued an abducted girl from Himachal Pradesh and arrested the accused kidnapper, who had lured the victim through social media.
Acting on a specific input and under the directions of SSP Ganderbal, Khalil Ahmad Poswal, a special team from Police Post Shadipora traced the accused to Himachal and successfully rescued the girl. The accused has been identified as Firdous Rustum Khan, son of Rustum Ali Khan, a resident of Shatigam, Handwara.
According to police, the accused, a married man and father of two, had been using social media platforms to befriend and manipulate young girls. After establishing contact with the victim, he allegedly abducted her and took her to Himachal Pradesh.
The rescued girl was safely brought back to Kashmir and handed over to her legal guardians after completion of medico-legal formalities. A case under FIR No. 185/2025 has been registered at Police Station Ganderbal under relevant sections of law, and further investigation is underway.
Officials said the successful rescue reflects Ganderbal Police’s commitment to ensuring the safety of women and taking firm action against crimes involving exploitation through online platforms. The police have urged the public, particularly the youth, to remain vigilant while interacting with strangers on social media and to promptly report any suspicious behaviour or activities to the nearest police unit.
