Srinagar: To stimulate the industrial and commercial sector in the union territory, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has developed a new logistics policy that includes cutting the cost of logistics by 50% and creating an eco-friendly transportation system.

The administration has prepared the draught Jammu & Kashmir Logistics Policy 2023 for the following five years to create infrastructure for the transport sector in response to the union territory’s tremendous growth in the logistics sector.
With the help of measures for barrier-free movement, the administration hopes to increase the average daily distance traversed by freight vehicles from 250 km to 500 km under this strategy.
The draft policy document stated that new initiatives would be added, such as GPS-based tolling to enable distance-linked toll collection, zero waiting time, and digital clearances at interstate crossings and customs checkpoints.
It said that within the following five years, logistics expenses would be cut by at least 50% of their current level.
“The policy aims at identifying critical problems and bottlenecks affecting the effectivenessof logistics in Jammu and Kashmir.
The strategy also prioritises decisionmaking in this area while regularly examining ways to increase ground, air, and inland waterway connectivity throughout the UT (when possible/viable).
A strong logistics infrastructure, including a network of logistics parks, transport yards, warehouses, and controlled atmosphere stores, will be established, according to the proposed policy.
“This policy will make appropriate interventions for improving the UT’s performance in logistics on key metrics, including quality logistics infrastructure, quality of logistics service providers, efficiency of regulatory processes, favorability of the operating environment, ease of arranging logistics at competitive rates, timeliness of cargo delivery, safety/security of cargo movement, and ease of track and trace,” it stated.
