Handwara Police, CRPF 162 recover pistol, heroin-like substance during joint operation
Srinagar, Nov 20 (KNC): A joint team of Police and CRPF on Thursday busted a narco-terror module operating in the Qalamabad area, leading to the arrest of a father-son duo involved in trafficking contraband and handling illegal arms.
In a statement issued here to news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, Police said that acting on specific intelligence about the presence of commercial-quantity narcotics and arms, FIR No. 38/2025 was registered at Police Station Qalamabad under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, UA(P) Act, and Arms Act.
The arrested duo has been identified as Shahnawaz Khan (23) and his father Abdul Lateef (53), both residents of Puthwari, Nowgam, Handwara. Officials told JKNS that the two were “actively involved in running a narco-terror network” in the area.
During searches, the joint team recovered one pistol with seven live rounds and approximately 890 grams of heroin-like contraband, police said.
Authorities added that further investigation is underway to identify the broader network and trace the source of the recovered contraband and weapon. (KNC)
