Srinagar:JKPCC President Gulam Ahmed Mir resigned from his position as head of the state unit on Wednesday amid internal strife in the Jammu and Kashmir Congress.

In a letter to Sonia Gandhi, the leader of the Congress, Mir stated that as a disciplined soldier, he would accept any choice she made on his replacement.

In the letter, he stated, “In keeping with the best traditions of the party, I put down my papers to enable the Congress president to nominate the next chief of J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC).”

Mir had led the state unit for more than seven years before being chosen as J&K Congress chief in March 2015.
