Every evening 21-year-old Faheem Farooq, a powerlifting champion from Khayam leaves for a gym in city outskirts to train dozens of youth. It has become his routine to manage training session for his clients, who too are preparing for mega championships in bodybuilding competitions.
Given his expertise in bodybuilding and powerlifting, he is sure that his athletes will bag medals in coming years. “My boys are dedicated and are working hard to make a mark in this game,” he said.
Faheem’s journey to becoming a trainer at a young age has not been a cake walk. It is his determination and hard work which propelled him such a great recognition. Winning the gold medal in the powerlifting championship in 2023 was a significant milestone for him as he worked hard for years to achieve this feat. “I worked hard for years and last few month of championship has been challenging for me. But finally I bagged the gold medal and now I am equally focusing on other aspects of bodybuilding too,” Faheem said.
Recognizing the importance of physical fitness and a disciplined lifestyle, Farooq is currently a trainer at a a leading gym in Srinagar where his training program are transforming youth. Faheem’s initiative focuses on imparting essential fitness training, promoting strength and endurance, and instilling the values of perseverance and dedication.
“Fitness is not just about building muscles; it’s about building character and resilience. I want to inspire young people to embrace a healthy lifestyle, which in turn will help them achieve their goals in all aspects of life,” he said.
His approach is holistic, incorporating not only physical exercises but also nutritional advice and mental wellness practices. “It is not just gym but one has to take a balanced diet to achieve a good and fit physique. So, during my training programmes I essentially focus on the nutrition of my clients,” he said.
Apart from training fitness freaks, Faheem is simultaneously preparing for mega championships in the game of powerlifting in coming years.“I am currently preparing for various powerlifting championships. My goal is to bag titles in international powerlifting events. I am being prepared by the experts in the field,” he said.
