Kalyan: A 30-year-old man, identified as Suraj (name changed), has been arrested for allegedly killing his friend, Nagesh (name changed), in Badlapur. The incident stemmed from accusations that Nagesh had sexually assaulted Suraj’s wife.
According to the police, Suraj invited Nagesh, aged 29, to his house on January 10 under the pretext of a party. Nagesh, who worked in a private company, and Suraj were long-time friends and lived in the same locality. After consuming alcohol together, Nagesh spent the night at Suraj’s residence. It was during this time that Suraj attacked Nagesh with a hammer, striking him repeatedly on the head, resulting in Nagesh’s death.
Investigations revealed that Nagesh had allegedly raped Suraj’s wife when she was alone at home. He had reportedly threatened her to remain silent about the incident. However, the woman disclosed the assault to her husband, leading him to devise a plan to confront Nagesh.
Initially, Suraj informed the police the next morning that Nagesh had died after falling in the bathroom. However, a post-mortem report indicated that Nagesh had died from blunt force trauma to the head. Confronted with the evidence, Suraj eventually confessed to the murder.
Kiran Balwadkar, a senior police officer from Badlapur East Police Station, stated, “Suraj admitted to planning the attack after learning about the sexual assault. He confessed to hitting Nagesh with a hammer to avenge his wife.”
Suraj has since been taken into custody, and further investigations are ongoing. Authorities have registered a case of murder and are reviewing evidence in connection with the sexual assault allegations.
