Effective parking solutions must to provide a comprehensive urban upgrade

Srinagar, Nov 10 : Kashmir Traders & Manufacturers Federation (KTMF) has urged the Divisional & District administration to expedite the ongoing road improvement projects in downtown Srinagar and also address the pressing issue of unavailable parking spaces in the area.

A statement issued here said that these challenges have combined to create a growing burden on businesses and residents in the heart of the city.

KTMF acting President Mohammad Yaseen Khan, in a statement issued here emphasised the urgency of the situation stating, “the deteriorating road conditions and worsening traffic congestion in downtown Srinagar are adversely affecting businesses, commuters and the overall well being of the local community. We urge govt to take immediate action to address these issues.”

Khan said, “need for accelerated road works under Smart City Project in the downtown area is driven by a multitude of factors. The rapid expansion of Srinagar’s population and the corresponding increase in vehicular traffic have significantly strained the existing road infrastructure.”

“This has led to prolonged traffic jams, increased pollution and an overall decline in the business of city based traders. The proposed road improvement projects, which have been in the planning stages for some time which aim to widen roads, repair existing infrastructure and implement advanced traffic management systems needs to be done at pace due to approaching winter.”

We urge local administration & authorities overlooking Smart City to expedite the implementation of these projects, ensuring that they are completed in a timely and efficient manner.

“The shortage of parking spaces is a significant concern, as it not only hampers the flow of traffic but also deters visitors from coming to the area, impacting local businesses. This issue must be addressed in conjunction with the ongoing road improvement projects.

KTMF acknowledges that while the road improvement projects are essential to alleviating traffic congestion, they must also be accompanied by effective parking solutions to provide a comprehensive urban upgrade. By doing so, KTMF hopes to alleviate the burden on local businesses and residents and improve the overall livability of downtown Srinagar,” Khan added.
