Seeks power amnesty for commercial consumers
Srinagar, Jan 20: The Kashmir Trade Alliance (KTA) strongly criticised the recent decision to extend the power curtailment schedule by 2.5 hours.
In a statement, Aijaz Shahdhar, President KTA, expressed concerns over the impact of this move on daily life and business operations.
Shahdhar argued that instead of resorting to extended power cuts, the government should consider purchasing additional power from the Northern grid to fulfill the local power demand. He emphasized that such measures are essential to ensure a smooth functioning of businesses and to maintain the quality of life for the residents.
In addition to opposing the power curtailment extension, Shahdhar urged the LG administration to announce a power amnesty for commercial consumers. He highlighted the potential benefits of such a move, stating, “It would be a win-win situation for both the government and consumers, as the government would generate revenue, and consumers would be relieved of pending liabilities.”
The KTA has already submitted a memorandum to the administration, addressing the need for a power amnesty specifically for commercial consumers. The alliance is hopeful that this appeal will be considered seriously.
Furthermore, the KTA appealed to LG Sinha for immediate intervention to address the concerns raised by the trade community. As the situation unfolds, the business community in Srinagar awaits a response from the administration to mitigate the challenges posed by the extended power curtailment schedule.
