Srinagar, Jan 24, KNT: A power lineman of the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) was critically injured after suffering an electric shock while repairing an electricity transmission line in the Batpora Kanihama area of Magam in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Saturday.

Officials identified the injured lineman as Bashir Ahmad Dar. The incident occurred when he was engaged in restoration work to revive power supply disrupted due to heavy snowfall. Dar reportedly received a severe electric shock and collapsed at the site, following which he was rushed to Sub District Hospital, Magam.

Doctors at the hospital, after examining his condition, referred him to a hospital in Srinagar for advanced treatment as his condition was found to be critical. He was subsequently shifted in an ambulance, officials said.

Police reached the hospital soon after the incident and have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances that led to the accident. Statements of concerned staff and officials are being recorded as part of the probe.

It is worth mentioning that power supply has been affected in several parts of the Kashmir Valley following recent heavy snowfall, which caused damage to transmission and distribution lines. Power department teams have been working round the clock to restore electricity in affected areas despite harsh weather and difficult terrain.

Officials said restoration work is underway at multiple locations across the Valley, adding that adverse weather conditions have significantly increased risks for field staff engaged in repair and maintenance operations.
