Srinagar, Mar 27: The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCC&I) has welcomed the commissioning of the HR Digital Microscope System at the Pashmina Testing and Quality Certification Centre (PTQCC), located within the Craft Development Institute.
KCCI believes that this technological investment will play a crucial role in facilitating access to the prestigious Geographical Indication (GI) Label, a critical marker of authenticity and quality for Pashmina products. It will also help reduce the waiting period for getting GI tagging done by artisans, and exporters at the facility. This upgraded HR Digital Microscope System will greatly enhance PTQCC’s ability to test and certify Pashmina fibres for the prestigious Geographical Indication (GI) Label, which certifies Pashmina fibre as a mark of distinction in the global niche markets.
KCC&I has also welcomed the Handicrafts and Handloom Department’s proactive approach in submitting a proposal for additional Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM) under the National Handicrafts Development Programme. KCCI also praised the Indian Institute of Carpet Technology (IICT) for providing modern steel carpet looms to artisans, fulfilling a long-standing demand from the organization. This initiative represents a significant advancement for local craftsmen, as the modern equipment will not only enhance the efficiency of their production processes but also improve the quality of their craftsmanship. The technological advancement is more than just an equipment upgrade. It is a transformative step that will directly impact the livelihoods of skilled artisans and strengthen the economic and cultural significance of the Pashmina, carpet industry in Kashmir.
KCC&I remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote technological advancement, quality assurance, and economic development in the handicrafts sector.
