Srinagar, Oct 21 : Afaq Shafi, a promising young Kashmiri singer, has achieved his dream of making it to the Top 20 on the popular singing reality show, ‘Indian Idol 14.’
Hailing from Shalimar, Afaq’s journey to the ‘Indian Idol’ stage has been a lifelong aspiration. After years of dedication and relentless effort, he finally saw his dream come true. Afaq Shafi expressed his gratitude to his parents and a higher power for helping him reach this significant milestone in his singing career.
In an exclusive interview with ANI, Afaq Shafi shared, “I have been singing since childhood, and no one has taught me. All I learned is from social media and YouTube. I didn’t have exposure on how to sing and where to sing, and I got chances to showcase my talent through social media.”
Afaq’s musical journey began when he started his YouTube channel in 2019. His talent quickly garnered positive feedback from music enthusiasts, and with the unwavering support of his parents, he was encouraged to pursue a career in music.
Despite facing economic challenges and cultural stereotypes, Afaq’s passion for music and his family’s unwavering support propelled him forward on his path to success. He initially auditioned online and later traveled to Delhi and Mumbai to audition in person.
Reflecting on his journey, Afaq shared, “Before reaching the Indian Idol auditions, I had given many auditions, and I told them I hadn’t learned anywhere and I would sing without a band. The judges appreciated me and said I had to sing with a band and music. I performed well and got selected in the top 20.”
Afaq Shafi drew inspiration from renowned singers like Arijit Singh, Kumar Sanu, Mohammed Rafi, and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. While on ‘Indian Idol,’ he had the opportunity to learn from fellow contestants, further honing his musical skills.
Afaq Shafi’s aspirations extend beyond personal success. He aims to inspire and motivate aspiring singers in Kashmir with his journey. “I want to learn from the experience on the show and become an inspiration for young singers in Kashmir,” he stated.
