Srinagar: Help for the earthquake victims in Syria and Turkey has begun from Kashmir.
An enormous earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria last week left thousands of people homeless and claimed more than 30,000 lives so far.
Various social, charitable, and NGOs have stepped up in Kashmir to raise money for the earthquake victims in both of these Muslim nations.
Ehsaas Trust International, a charitable organisation of the valley,has launched a campaign to collect aid for the victims in Syria and Turkey.
“We The Helping Hands Foundation”, another NGO has also begun gathering supplies for the victims in Kashmir.
The NGO has dispatched one consignment to the embassy of Turkey in New Dehli. “Soon after calling people for relief donations, we got enormous response and three trucks of relief were been collected in just one day. Another consignment will leave tomorrow,” said Muzamil Nazir, vice president of the NGO.
For Syria, where there is a dearth of baby food, he said they have started drive for the same.
“So far, we collected jackets, blankets, sleeping bags and kids wear for both these countries. Now we will start collecting baby food and clothes to cater to the Syrian victims,” Nazir said.
He said they have set up their relief collection centers in various districts of Kashmir.
Kashmir’s logistics company Fastbeetle , too has started a similar initiative to ship the relief for the victims of Turkey and Syria.
Sheikh Samiullah, CEO and co-founder of Fastbeetle told that they have managed to collect one ton relief, which will be soon shipped to both these countries.
The Fastbeetle has tweeted about their relief drive for the people of both these earthquakes devastated countries following which people started donating food and other items.
Samiullah said they are in constant touch with the embassies of Turkey and Syria for shipping of the relief.
“We are dispatching our first consignment and second one will also follow. People have enormously responded for the call to help the victims of Syria and Turkey,” he said.
Samiullah said that they have collected blankets, biscuits, clothes and sanitary pads for the victims.
“People are willing to help the victims and we are hoping for more people to join in donating the relief for the victims,” he said.
