Srinagar, April 24: Expressing concern over dwindling footfall in the city center markets, Farhan Kitab, President of the Joint Traders Association (JTA), an amalgam of 14 markets, today urged the city administration to address traffic management and transport connectivity issues on a priority basis.
In a statement, Kitab emphasized that poor traffic management and inadequate transport connectivity to the city center have significantly impacted sales of local shopkeepers. The JTA underscored the retail sector’s critical role in fostering economic growth and generating employment opportunities within the community.
“Efficient traffic management and improved transport connectivity are imperative to sustain the vibrancy of our city’s markets,” Kitab stated. “As vital contributors to the local economy, shopkeepers rely on consistent foot traffic to support their businesses. We urge the administration to take decisive action to alleviate these challenges and support the growth of the retail sector.”
Calling upon the city administration to implement serious initiatives to address the pressing issues affecting the retail industry, the JTA reiterated its commitment to collaborate with stakeholders to find sustainable solutions. These solutions, the association believes, will enhance the vitality of the city center and promote the prosperity of local businesses.
The JTA’s appeal comes amid growing concerns from traders about the adverse impact of traffic congestion and limited transportation options on their sales and the overall market environment.
