Srinagar, Mar 7: The Jammu and Kashmir Hotels and Restaurants Association (JKHARA) has expressed strong support for the J&K Budget 2025-26, presented today by Hon’ble Chief Minister Mr. Omar Abdullah in Jammu.
In a statement, JKHARA President Babar Chowdhary highlighted that this budget marks a significant step toward economic growth and development, with a commendable emphasis on social welfare measures.
President Chowdhary stated, “Omar Abdullah’s first budget sets a promising tone for our region’s future. The proposal to provide free 200 units of power for Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) households demonstrates fiscal courage and a commitment to uplifting the underprivileged. Additionally, the introduction of free transportation services for women in government-owned transport reflects a forward-thinking approach to social equity.”
The budget outlines initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable tourism, which is crucial for the region’s economic revitalization. The SPREAD initiative focuses on the strategic promotion and revamping of lesser-known destinations, supported by multilateral funding. There is also an allocation of Rs 80 crore for upgrading infrastructure for the Shri Amarnathji Yatra, along with Rs 50 crore for developing new tourism destinations. Furthermore, Rs 20 crore has been earmarked for the revival of 49 tourism assets, enhancing the overall visitor experience.
Additionally, the budget doubles the tourism promotion budget from Rs 36 crore, underscoring the government’s commitment to boosting the sector. To enhance adventure tourism, initiatives are in place for promoting water sports activities at Manasbal and Ranjit Sagar Lake, including the development of infrastructure for kayaking, canoeing, and jet skiing.
Environmental sustainability is a core focus, with the establishment of Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) and Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) at a budget of Rs 80 crore, aimed at preserving the region’s natural ecosystems. The budget also includes comprehensive master plans for key destinations like Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonmarg, Patnitop, Doodhpathri, and Kokernag, ensuring sustainable tourism development and environmental balance.
Moreover, significant investments are allocated for winter sports infrastructure, public amenities, film production, and the construction of a convention center near Sidhra Golf Course through public-private partnerships, all of which are set to enhance the region’s tourism appeal.
President Chowdhary concluded, “The initiatives outlined in this budget represent a holistic approach to development, balancing economic growth with social responsibility. We look forward to collaborating with the government to ensure these plans are effectively implemented for the benefit of our community and the tourism sector.”
