Baramulla, Jan 02: In a move to enhance safety measures, the tourism authorities in Kashmir have issued a strict prohibition on sledging activities on the ski slopes of Gulmarg. This decision was made public through an order by the Assistant Director Tourism, Gulmarg, aimed at ensuring the safety and orderly conduct of skiing activities.
The order highlights that sledging on the ski slopes has been observed to pose significant risks to skiers, particularly to children and those new to skiing. “It has been observed that sledging activities on these slopes pose a serious threat to skiers, including children and untrained individuals who are undergoing skiing lessons,” the document states.
The presence of sledges has been identified as a source of confusion and chaos, significantly increasing the risk of accidents. The order explicitly states, “Therefore, it is hereby directed that sledging activities are strictly prohibited on the designated ski slopes where skiing activities are being conducted. All sledging enthusiasts are advised to use the adjacent tracks earmarked for sledging activities.”
This segregation of activities is seen as crucial for preventing mishaps and ensuring the safety of all visitors to the slopes. “The segregation of activities was essential to prevent any unfortunate incidents and to ensure the safety of all individuals on the slopes,” the order elaborates.
The directive calls for cooperation from all stakeholders, including operators, tourists, and the general public, urging them to adhere to the new rules. Non-compliance will be met with strict action under relevant legal provisions.
To enforce this new policy, the Ski Patrol Team and other officials have been tasked with guiding tourists and sledging enthusiasts to the correct areas for sledging and ensuring that the order is strictly implemented.
The Assistant Director Tourism, Gulmarg, emphasized that this order serves the best interest of public safety and aims to facilitate the smooth conduct of winter sports in Gulmarg, one of Asia’s premier skiing destinations.
This directive comes at a time when Gulmarg is preparing for the peak of the winter season, attracting numerous tourists and sports enthusiasts from across the globe.
