Srinagar, Mar 20: In a significant move to address the concerns of casual and seasonal labourers, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has established a committee tasked with examining issues related to the regularization of these workers across the Union Territory. The formation of the committee is formalized in Government Order No. 384-JK(GAD) of 2025, dated March 19, 2025.
The committee will be chaired by the Chief Secretary, with members including the Additional Chief Secretary to Chief Minister and various Administrative Secretaries from key departments such as Finance, General Administration, and Planning Development. The Department of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs will also be represented.
The mandate of the committee is to explore various humanitarian, legal, and financial issues connected to the regularization of casual and seasonal laborers. This initiative hopes to provide a comprehensive framework and path forward for safeguarding the rights and welfare of these workers.
The committee is expected to submit its report within six months and will be supported by the General Administration Department. This proactive step aims to enhance the livelihoods of a significant segment of the workforce in the region, addressing urgent concerns regarding job security and employment rights.
As the committee embarks on its mission, it may co-opt additional members as necessary to enrich its perspectives and expertise.
This initiative reflects a growing recognition of the vital role that casual and seasonal laborers play in the economy of Jammu and Kashmir and is aligned with ongoing efforts to improve labor conditions in the region.
