Bijbehara, Nov 29: A devastating fire swept through three industrial units in the early morning hours today, causing extensive damage and raising serious questions about industrial safety in Kashmir.
The blaze, which erupted at M/s S. B. Foods and rapidly spread to neighbouring factories, including Chinar Agro Industries and another unit owned by a migrant entrepreneur, has left business leaders in shock and demanding immediate action.
A Pattern of Destruction
This incident marks the fourth fire in industrial estates within recent months, following similar destructive events in Lassipora, Burzallah, and Sopore industrial zones. The recurring nature of these incidents has sparked widespread concern among local industry leaders.
Swift Response, Significant Losses
Firefighters battled intensely to control the rapidly spreading flames, struggling to prevent the fire from consuming additional industrial units. Muzaffar Ahmad, President of the Industrial Estate Bijbehara, reported that the fire originated at S. B. Foods before quickly engulfing adjacent factories.
Industry Leaders Raise Alarm
Shahid Kamili, President of the Federation of Chambers of Industries Kashmir (FCIK), has taken immediate action in response to the disaster. He personally reached out to key officials, including the Director of Industries & Commerce, Kashmir, and the Managing Director of SICOP/SIDCO, to address the escalating fire safety crisis.
