Srinagar/Jammu, Dec 5 (KDC): Air travel across Jammu and Kashmir was thrown into disarray on Friday after IndiGo Airlines cancelled a major portion of its scheduled operations, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded at Srinagar and Jammu airports.
According to reports reaching Kashmir Dot Com (KDC), 10 out of 18 flights were cancelled at Srinagar Airport, while 7 of the 9 scheduled flights at Jammu Airport were also grounded. The sweeping cancellations hit both arrivals and departures, disrupting connectivity with key cities across the country.
Airport sources said the airline has not issued a detailed public breakdown of each cancellation, but “operational and technical reasons” were cited as the primary causes behind the disruption.
Passengers at both airports reported last-minute alerts, prolonged waiting hours, and inadequate communication, forcing many to either postpone travel or queue up for refunds. Several travelers expressed frustration over the lack of timely updates from the airline amid peak movement hours.
An airport official said efforts were underway to restore normal operations. “We are trying to accommodate passengers on alternate flights wherever possible. Travelers are advised to check with the airline for the latest status before heading to the airport,” the official noted.
IndiGo, India’s largest domestic carrier, has been experiencing intermittent operational disruptions nationwide in recent days, including weather-linked diversions and aircraft-related technical delays — adding to the travel chaos witnessed on Friday.
The cancellations at the two major airports in J&K have once again raised concerns over the airline’s operational consistency, especially during the winter months when flight schedules are already vulnerable to weather-related challenges.
