Srinagar, Oct 10: The Child Guidance and Wellbeing Centre (CGWC), IMHANS-Kashmir, Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, has successfully concluded a one-week certificate course on the mental health and psychosocial wellbeing of children for Anganwadi Workers of Srinagar district.
The programme, held from October 5 to 10, 2026, was organised in collaboration with POSHAN Srinagar, with support from UNICEF India.
The course aimed to strengthen the capacity of Anganwadi Workers to understand children’s mental health needs, recognise early signs of developmental and emotional difficulties, promote positive caregiving practices, and facilitate timely referrals for children requiring additional support.
The valedictory function was attended by Dr. Deeba Nazir, Consultant Psychiatrist at the Mentoring Institute Tele-MANAS, IMHANS-Kashmir, representing Prof. (Dr.) Zaid Ahmad Wani, Head of CGWC-IMHANS; Ms. Sobia Rasheed, Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), POSHAN Srinagar; Dr. Khair-ul-Nisa, Chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Srinagar; and other representatives.
Certificates were distributed to participants in recognition of their participation and commitment to promoting child wellbeing. The contributions of the CGWC-IMHANS team, resource persons, programme coordinators and support staff were also acknowledged.
The programme highlighted the vital role of Anganwadi Workers as frontline partners in the early identification of developmental and emotional difficulties, providing psychosocial support, and referring children to appropriate services when needed.
The initiative reflects a shared commitment to strengthening community-based child mental health services across Srinagar and enhancing support for children at the community level.
“Every child deserves to be heard, understood, supported, and given the opportunity to thrive.”
