Srinagar, Nov 22: The Jammu & Kashmir Hoteliers Club and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Kashmir (CCIK) have warmly welcomed the government’s decision to reopen Drung in Gulmarg for tourists, calling it a timely move that will revive confidence in Kashmir’s tourism sector ahead of the winter season.

In a joint statement, Chairman of the Hoteliers Club, Mushtaq Chaya, expressed gratitude to the civil and police administration for clearing the destination for public access after months of closure following security concerns earlier this year.

“Drung has always been one of Gulmarg’s most loved attractions, especially during winter. Its closure had impacted tourist footfall and the livelihoods of many people who rely on tourism. We are grateful to the administration for ensuring the security environment is conducive again. This reopening will give a major boost to winter tourism and reassure travellers planning their visits,” Chaya said.

President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Kashmir (CCIK), Tariq Ghani, also hailed the step, describing it as a “positive and much-needed signal” for the tourism economy.

“The decision to reopen Drung reflects the government’s commitment to reviving tourism and supporting the thousands of families who depend on it. This move will greatly encourage tourists, especially as the winter season picks up. We appreciate the efforts of both the civil administration and security agencies in making this possible,” Ghani said.

Both organisations urged the government to continue its proactive approach in restoring full access to tourist sites across the Valley and improving facilities to ensure a safe and seamless experience for visitors.

“The tourism sector has faced several challenges this year. The reopening of Drung is a step in the right direction, and we hope similar measures continue across all destinations. Working together, we can ensure a strong and successful winter season for Kashmir,” the joint statement added.

The Hoteliers Club and CCIK appealed to tourists to follow official advisories and cooperate with local authorities for a smooth and enjoyable visit to Drung and other destinations in Gulmarg.
