Srinagar, Jan 28:
Large parts of Kashmir have witnessed exceptionally heavy snowfall over the recent spell, with higher reaches reporting snow accumulation ranging from 5 to over 8 feet, while plains and town areas recorded 2 to 4 feet, significantly impacting road connectivity, daily life and winter mobility.

According to details available, Peer Ki Gali and Sadhna Top recorded the highest snowfall at over 8 feet, while Sinthan Top received around 7–8 feet of snow, making several mountain passes temporarily inaccessible.

Popular tourist and high-altitude destinations also reported massive snow accumulation. Doodhpathri and Yousmarg recorded 5–6 feet, while Chiranbal saw around 6 feet of snowfall. Dubjan Heerpora and Aharbal reported over 5 feet, indicating intense snowfall across south and central Kashmir’s upper belts.

In south Kashmir, DK Marg recorded over 4 feet, while Shopian town received 3–4 feet of snow. Kund Kulgam witnessed comparatively lower accumulation at 2–3 feet.

Major tourist destinations including Gulmarg and Sonmarg reported 3–4 feet of snowfall, while Pahalgam recorded around 2–3 feet.

The heavy snowfall has disrupted road connectivity on several axes, particularly high-altitude passes, while power supply and water services have been affected in parts of the Valley. Authorities have deployed men and machinery to clear roads and restore essential services.

Meanwhile, residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, especially towards higher reaches, as avalanche risk remains high in snow-bound areas. Meteorological officials said the snowfall has significantly added to the season’s snow reserve, which is crucial for water availability in the coming months.

The situation continues to be monitored closely by the administration and disaster management authorities.
