Jammu, Dec 4 (KNC): The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh on Thursday listed the habeas corpus petition filed on behalf of Doda MLA Mehraj Malik as part heard, scheduling the next hearing for December 18, 2025.

As per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, The matter came up before Justice Mohd. Yousaf Wani at the Jammu wing of the High Court. During the proceedings, Senior Advocate Rahul Pant, along with Advocates S.S. Ahmed, M. Iqbal Khan, Appu Singh Slathia and M. Zulkarnain Chowdhary, argued extensively, asserting that the detention of the MLA was “illegal and untenable in the eyes of law.”

Advocates for the petitioner strongly criticised the grounds of detention, with Senior Counsel Rahul Pant describing the action as “barbaric, an act of administrative overreach, and an attempt to silence the dissenting voice of an elected representative.”
The arguments continued for nearly three hours in the first half of the day.

Meanwhile, Senior Counsel Sunil Sethi, accompanied by Senior AAG Monika Kohli, appeared for the government. The state counsel submitted two fresh applications and one supplementary affidavit in connection with the case.

After hearing both sides at length, the court marked the matter as part heard and adjourned it for further arguments on December 18. (KNC)
