Srinagar: This winter has been all about Harrisa in Kashmir. This winter delicacy has been trending all over and its sales have been much more than the previous years in Kashmir.
Pertinently this winter Kashmir has witnessed a rise in female foodpreneurs who prepared various delicacies in their kitchens and sold them to their customers through the food delivery services.
As such this winter, Harissa has been the leading food choice for the foodies in Kashmir who ordered this winter delicacy more often.
Jibran Gulzar, founder of Gatoes said that his platform delivered almost 5000 orders of Harissa per month in Srinagar.
“We receive more than 150 orders for harissa every morning. The amazing thing is that every buyer orders it for between Rs. 1000 and Rs. 5000. This reveals to us how much the people of Kashmir love Harissa,” he said.
According to Gulzar, people prefer home-made harissa over popular restaurants or Kashmiri harissa businesses.
“We ran a campaign this winter to highlight the female entrepreneurs who made this delicacy. It was a success since most consumers chose to purchase harissa that was made at home. By selling harissa over the current winter, these businesspeople generated a total monthly revenue of seven figures,” he stated.
As per the information shared by the Gatoes, the highest order of Harissa worth 34,647 rupees was placed by a customer in Srinagar this winter.
Along with residents, tourists had also ordered harissa from a number of Srinagar venues. “We saw that visitors who were staying in Sonwar and Boulevard hotels like this delicacy and frequently ordered it through our service, according to Gulzar.
He said the second most popular food in Kashmir this winter has been momos. “Momo was also the most eaten dish in Kashmir and it seems that momos have become a kind of staple dish for Kashmiris. In 2022 we delivered nearly 40,000 plates to the customers in Srinagar. Butter chicken is also among the most preferred dish in Kashmir,” Gulzar said.
