Srinagar, Mar 15: In response to concerns raised by MLA Tanvir Sadiq regarding severe traffic congestion in Srinagar, the Chief Minister has outlined plans for a new flyover to address the ongoing issues. The statement was made during a recent legislative session, where the traffic situation, particularly in busy areas like Lal Chowk and Jehangir Chowk, was emphasized.
MLA Sadiq highlighted how severe traffic congestion continues to impact daily commuters and local businesses, causing significant disruptions. The government acknowledged these concerns, confirming that residents are indeed suffering from the traffic gridlock.
Additionally, Sadiq pointed out that the narrowing of Maulana Azad Road, part of the Smart City Project, has exacerbated the situation, creating bottlenecks that contribute to chaos in key areas. In response, the government clarified that they believe this particular narrowing is not a factor in the overall traffic crisis.
To combat these challenges, the Chief Minister revealed that a proposal for a new VOP bridge or flyover connecting Convent School to a major link road via Sherwani Road over the Jhelum River is currently under examination by the Public Works (R&B) Department. This project aims to provide a long-term solution to the traffic woes plaguing the city.
Furthermore, discussions regarding the feasibility of constructing a parallel flyover along Maulana Azad Road, extending from Dalgate to Jehangir Chowk, are ongoing. The feasibility study has been completed, and the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is now under review.
The community is hopeful that these initiatives will improve traffic management and enhance mobility in Srinagar, ultimately benefiting both residents and local businesses. As details emerge, stakeholders continue to engage in discussions aimed at finding effective solutions to the region’s transportation challenges.
