Srinagar, June 13: The Government of Jammu and Kashmir has constituted a high-level committee to investigate allegations of illegal construction and alterations at the historic Amar Singh Club in Srinagar. The order, issued today by the Directorate of Archives, Archaeology, and Museums, Srinagar/Jammu, directs the committee to ascertain the exact nature and extent of violations at the heritage site.
The committee will be headed by Shri Mushtaq Ahmad Beigh, Deputy Director of Archives, Archaeology & Museums, Kashmir. It includes key officials such as Mr. Shaheena Yaseen, Editor at SPS Museum, Srinagar, Shri Abdul Ahad Dar, Section Officer, Directorate Office, and Shri Javid Ahmad Mantoo, Surveyor cum Excavation Assistant.

According to the government’s directive, the committee’s mandate includes examining the current status of the heritage building, identifying any violations, assessing damage to the site’s character and originality, determining whether necessary permissions or No Objection Certificates (NOCs) were obtained, and obtaining details of officials involved in any violations. The committee is also tasked with documenting all findings through detailed photographs and videos.
The committee is required to conduct a site visit by June 14, 2025, and submit a comprehensive report with photographic evidence by June 20, 2025.
Copies of this order have been circulated to the Principal Secretary to the Government, Department of Culture, the Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, and the Secretary of Amar Singh Club, Srinagar, among others, urging full cooperation with the inquiry process.
