New Delhi, May 9: In the highly anticipated Carpet Export Promotion Council (CEPC) elections for the year 2024, four prominent exporters from Jammu and Kashmir have been elected to the Committee of Administration (CoA). The successful candidates are Mr. Shaukat Khan of M/s. Ganearts, Srinagar, Mr. Kuldeep Raj Wattal of M/s. Bazaz Orient Teppiche, Srinagar, Mr. Mehraj Yasin Jan of M/s. Jay Cee Exports, Srinagar, and Mr. Ashiq Ahmad Sheikh of M/s. Ferozson Exports Pvt. Ltd., Srinagar.
The electoral process, chaired by Dr. Romesh Khajuria and conducted in accordance with the CEPC’s Memorandum and Articles of Association & Election Rules, attracted a total of 34 contestants vying for 18 positions on the CoA. The breakdown included 7 contestants from Jammu & Kashmir, 19 from Uttar Pradesh, and 8 from other Indian states.
The results were announced at Hotel The Lalit, Barakhamba Road, New Delhi, in the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including Dr. Romesh Khakujria, Chairman, CEPC, Ms. Amrit Raj, Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Shri Neeraj Gaba, Director, Department of Commerce, and Shri Prashant Meena, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Textiles.
Dr. Romesh Khajuria congratulated the newly elected members, emphasizing their crucial role in advancing the Carpet & Rugs Industry and envisioning a prosperous future. He extended his gratitude to all involved in the successful conduct of the elections, including government officials, Election Committee Members, and contestants.
The election of these respected J&K carpet exporters to the CoA is expected to provide a significant boost to the industry’s growth and development in the region, which has a rich heritage in carpet weaving. Their presence will ensure that the unique challenges and opportunities faced by J&K carpet exporters are adequately addressed within the Council.
Dr. Khajuria, who also serves as the Chairman of the Wool & Woollens Export Promotion Council (WWEPC), reiterated his dedication to fostering growth and sustainability within India’s vital textile industry sectors, including the carpet and woollen industries.
