Srinagar, Dec 4 (KNC): The Fee Fixation and Regulation Committee (FFRC) of Jammu & Kashmir has pulled up several private schools for overcharging students, issuing a fresh circular that strictly prohibits collecting full transport fees during vacations and banning compulsory advance fee payments.

The committee reminded institutions that only 50% transport fee is permissible during winter or summer breaks and that tuition fees must be collected monthly unless a parent voluntarily opts otherwise.

According to the circular issued by Chairman Fee fixation Committee J&K, as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, the committee reiterated its earlier order stating that only 50% of the transport fee can be charged during winter and summer vacations winter vacations for winter-zone schools and summer vacations for summer-zone schools. Schools have been directed not to exceed the 50% limit under any circumstances.

The FFRC has also taken note of complaints regarding schools forcing parents to pay advance fees. The circular clearly states that no school can compel a student to pay advance tuition fees, as tuition charges must be collected on a monthly basis.

However, the committee clarified that parents willing to pay advance fees may do so voluntarily, but no student or parent can be forced into such payments. (KNC)
