Srinagar: In a significant development for environmental advocacy, Faiz Bakshi has been re-elected as the Convener of the Environmental Policy Group (EPG). The re-election was conducted in accordance with the group’s Byelaws/Trust deed and was officiated by Senior Governing Council Members, Er. Ajaz Rasool and Mr. Mohammad Shafi, serving as Election Commissioners.
The election process commenced on December 13, 2025, and concluded with the selection of various office bearers and committee chairs for a two-year term from December 2024 to December 2026. The newly elected office bearers include:
- Faiz Ahmad Bakshi – Convenor
- Dr. M.M. Shuja – Co-Convenor
- Advocate Shafqat Nazir – Chairman, Legal Committee
- Er. Ajaz Rasool – Chairman, Media Committee
- Javed Ahmad Shah – Chairman, Finance Committee
- Advocate Nadeem Qadri
- Mohammad Shafi Bachha
- Mauzam Bakshi
- Peerzada Fayaz Ahmad
- Dr. Tauseef Ahmad Bhat
- Advocate Shabbir Ahmad Bhat
- Syed Sami Nassarullah
The EPG, a registered non-profit trust, reaffirmed its commitment to the conservation of natural resources and the promotion of a healthy environment, which it sees as crucial for sustainable development and community well-being. The group emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in addressing pressing environmental issues, including pollution, deforestation, and climate change.
“As we seek guidance and strength, we stand united in our mission to protect the environment and advocate for effective policies,” the EPG stated. The organization stresses that the protection of the environment transcends the efforts of individual activists or organizations; it requires the involvement of society as a whole.
Going forward, the EPG aims to raise public awareness about environmental issues affecting local ecosystems and engage with both state and central government officials to influence environmental policy in alignment with its mission. The organization is dedicated to educating the public about sustainable practices and preserving natural heritage to ensure a thriving ecosystem for future generations.
