Srinagar, Dec 17 – The Kashmir region is experiencing severe winter conditions, with minimum temperatures dropping dramatically across multiple districts, according to the latest data compiled by Kashmir Weather.

Coldest Zones

In the Kashmir Valley, Anantnag and Shopian recorded the lowest temperatures at a bone-chilling -8.9°C, making them the coldest locations in the region. Sonamarg followed closely with a minimum temperature of -7.7°C, highlighting the intense cold wave sweeping through the area.

Regional Temperature Breakdown

Kashmir Valley

  • Coldest Locations: Anantnag and Shopian (-8.9°C)
  • Moderate Areas: Srinagar (-5.3°C)
  • Notable Mentions: Pahalgam (-6.8°C), Budgam (-6.7°C)

Jammu Region

The Jammu region showed a stark contrast, with temperatures significantly milder:

  • Warmest Location: Katra (6.7°C)
  • Coldest Location: Padder (-8.3°C)
  • Urban Centers: Jammu (4.9°C), Kathua (5.0°C)

Ladakh

Ladakh continues to experience extreme cold:

  • Leh: -8.8°C
  • Kargil: A frigid -12.5°C

Weather Advisory

Residents are advised to take necessary precautions, including:

  • Wearing multiple layers of warm clothing
  • Keeping vulnerable individuals, especially children and elderly, indoors
  • Protecting water pipes from freezing
  • Ensuring adequate heating in homes and workplaces
