SRINAGAR, Apr 8:
Ramadan Ends With High Chances of Shawwal Moon Visibility on April 9 Evening
According to astronomical calculations and weather forecasts, there is a strong possibility of around 95% that the Shawwal crescent moon will be sighted on the evening of April 9 in India and Pakistan. This observation would mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan, and Eid ul-Fitr celebrations are expected to commence on April 10.
Eid ul-Fitr, one of the most significant festivals in the Islamic calendar, signifies the conclusion of the month-long fasting and spiritual rejuvenation observed during Ramadan. The sighting of the new moon is crucial in determining the start and end dates of this auspicious occasion.
Favorable Weather Conditions for Moon Sighting
Meteorological reports from regions like Jammu and Kashmir indicate mostly dry weather conditions with clear to partly cloudy skies in the late afternoon and evening hours on April 9. These favorable conditions increase the likelihood of the Shawwal moon being visible to the naked eye, allowing religious authorities to make the official announcement.
Simultaneous Celebrations Across the Muslim World
If the moon is indeed sighted on April 9, Eid ul-Fitr celebrations are anticipated to commence on April 10 in India, Pakistan, and several other Muslim-majority countries, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Iran. This synchronization of festivities holds great significance for the global Muslim community, fostering a sense of unity and shared cultural experiences.
Eid Traditions and Festivities
Eid ul-Fitr is a joyous occasion marked by special prayers, family gatherings, exchange of gifts, and visits to friends and relatives. After the Eid prayer, Muslims traditionally greet each other with the phrase “Eid Mubarak” (Blessed Eid) and indulge in celebratory feasts and festivities.
As the world awaits the official moon sighting reports, Muslims in India, Pakistan, and around the globe eagerly prepare to embrace the spirit of Eid ul-Fitr, a time of gratitude, compassion, and rejoicing after the spiritual journey of Ramadan.
