SRINAGAR, Jan 29 – The Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) has formally appealed to Srinagar’s Senior Superintendent of Police, expressing concerns over what they describe as “premature judgments” by media outlets affecting the medical community’s reputation.
In a letter addressed to the police chief, DAK emphasized the need to protect healthcare professionals’ dignity while maintaining ethical standards in media reporting. The association acknowledged media’s role as a democratic pillar but stressed the importance of accurate and unbiased reporting, particularly in cases involving healthcare professionals.
“We have observed a disturbing trend where media outlets or individuals engage in premature judgments, thereby risking the dignity and honor of healthcare professionals who dedicate their lives to serving humanity,” the letter stated.
The doctors’ body has requested police intervention to promote unbiased investigations and prevent what they term as “unwarranted character assassination” of medical professionals. The association expressed particular concern about the impact of misinformation and defamation on the medical community’s morale.
DAK, led by Dr. Mohd Yosuf Tak as President General Secretary, has offered to engage in further discussions with law enforcement authorities on this matter.
The development comes amid growing discussions about the intersection of media freedom and professional reputation in Kashmir’s healthcare sector.
