SRINAGAR, Nov 21: In a major initiative aimed at strengthening financial literacy across the nation, Central Depository Services (India) Limited (CDSL) has announced the launch of its first-ever “Reimagine Ideathon.” As Asia’s first listed depository and the custodian of over 16.7 crore demat accounts, CDSL is turning to the country’s youth to help design the future of responsible market participation.
The competition, introduced under the flagship 3rd Edition of CDSL’s Annual Reimagine Symposium, invites students to develop innovative solutions that transform how Indian citizens learn about, invest in, and grow with the securities market.
Bridging the Gap in Market Participation While the broader depository ecosystem now secures the assets of over 21 crore investor demat accounts, industry experts believe there remains a vast untapped potential to deepen market penetration. Building on similar financial inclusion initiatives by regulators like SEBI and the RBI, CDSL’s Ideathon aims to dismantle the barriers that prevent average citizens from benefiting from India’s economic growth story.
The initiative seeks to democratize market access by focusing on three core principles: Empowerment, Inclusion, and Trust. Participants are encouraged to explore a variety of avenues to solve these challenges, including gamification, behavioral nudges, communication strategies, design thinking, technology, and community building.
A Call for Responsible Innovation Speaking on the launch of the initiative, Mr. Nehal Vora, Managing Director & CEO of CDSL, highlighted the critical role of technology in building a self-reliant India.
“Reimagine Ideathon is a celebration of responsible innovation. In the ever-evolving market landscape, technology serves as a catalyst and flywheel of trust that empowers investors with the right tools and insights,” Vora stated. “The securities market must be intuitive, inclusive, and accessible to every investor, and this Ideathon reflects CDSL’s commitment to nation-building and to strengthening the vision of an Atmanirbhar investor. An educated investor is a protected investor; empowered to make informed decisions that reflect their aspirations. We invite students to participate in shaping that future.”
Prize Pool and Registration Details To encourage high-quality entries and competitive spirit, CDSL has announced a total prize pool of ₹11.5 lakh. The winning team will be awarded ₹5 lakh, while the first and second runners-up will receive ₹3 lakh and ₹2 lakh, respectively. The teams securing the fourth and fifth positions will be awarded ₹75,000 each.
Registrations for the Ideathon 2025 opened on November 17, 2025. The challenge is open to teams comprising up to four students and one mentor from the same institute.
